The Opportunity
Play a vital regulatory and advisory role supporting public health, safety and compliant development outcomes. As a Plumbing Inspector, you’ll assess development applications, undertake site inspections, and ensure plumbing and drainage works meet legislative and technical standards. Working closely with industry professionals, internal teams and the community, you’ll apply your technical expertise and sound judgement to resolve complex matters and contribute to high quality, compliant development across the region.

• Position Status - Full Time Temporary to 30 June 2028 (with possibility of extension)

• Position Remuneration - LGOA Level 5 - $101,787 base annual salary
• ($115,537 total remuneration package which is based on a permanent full-time employee and inclusive of 12% employer superannuation and 17.5% leave loading).

About You
Are you an experienced plumbing professional looking for a new role? Whether you have worked in a Council environment as a Plumbing Inspector before, or are looking for a change, we want to hear from you. Confident in your technical judgement, you’re comfortable assessing development applications, conducting site inspections and resolving complex compliance matters. You communicate clearly and professionally, building positive working relationships with industry, colleagues and the community, and you take pride in delivering fair, consistent and high quality regulatory outcomes that protect public health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess plumbing and drainage development applications and provide sound technical advice in accordance with relevant legislation, codes and approval frameworks.
• Conduct compliance inspections of plumbing and drainage installations to ensure works meet statutory requirements, best practice standards and permit conditions.
• Investigate compliance and enforcement matters, prepare reports and documentation, and represent the organisation at tribunals or court proceedings when required.
• Engage professionally with industry, internal stakeholders and the community to resolve issues, provide guidance and support consistent, high‑quality regulatory outcomes.
Skills & Experience
• Strong practical knowledge of plumbing and drainage legislation, codes and standards, including compliance and enforcement requirements.
• Demonstrated experience assessing plumbing and drainage applications, reviewing technical designs, and undertaking site inspections to ensure regulatory compliance (desirable).
• Proven ability to interpret legislation, technical reports and drawings, and apply sound judgement to complex or sensitive matters.
• Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with industry professionals, stakeholders and the community to resolve issues.
Qualifications
• Current Queensland Plumbers and Drainers Licence with relevant endorsements (including backflow prevention, TMV, solar and heat pumps).
• Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional association.
• Current C Class driver licence.
• Certificate IV in Wastewater Management, wastewater management endorsements, powers and entry training or White Card (desirable).
