Courses
This is an online course for all plumbers and contractors who wish to obtain a QBCC trade contractor licence. Furthermore, this course is also one of the mandatory certificate IV competencies required to obtain a Queensland plumbing/drainage/gas contractors licence.
The course applies to those establishing a business providing self-employment, as well as those establishing a new venture as part of a larger organisation.
This course covers current legislation and best practice relating to identifying and complying with legal and risk management requirements of a business or new business venture, including negotiating, creating, and planning for legal contracts used within the business, where required.
PLEASE NOTE: A webcam is required to participate in the course and action its content.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Unique Student Identifier
Students must also possess a valid USI.
All learners undertaking nationally accredited training must possess a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). The USI is an individual education number that allows learners to access their training records and results at any time. If learners do not possess a valid USI while undertaking accredited training they will be unable to receive a Statement of Attainment.
Course Delivery
This course is delivered online and is self-paced. Students will be given three months to complete the course.
Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course learners will be able to:
- identify legal and risk management requirements relating to business;
- implement procedures and processes to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements;
- negotiate and arrange contracts; and
- mitigate business risks.
Course Recognition
On successful completion of this course learners will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
Course Fees
- Students eligible for CSQ subsidy: $50 (Administration processing fee only)
- Members: $360 (If not eligible for subsidy)
- Non-members: $460 (If not eligible for subsidy)
MPAQ Member Discount
MPAQ members (contracting members and associate councils only) are eligible for a discount on MPAQ courses.
In order to access the discount you must fulfil one of the following eligibility requirements:
- You must be a member for at least one year if paying for membership monthly; or
- You must pay for your membership upfront for one year.
Course Subsidies

Construction Skills Queensland Short Courses Building Program is an initiative of Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ). CSQ is an independent, not-for-profit, industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices, trainees, and career seekers in the building and construction industry.
The CSQ Short Courses program provides targeted training in priority competencies to support workers and businesses in addressing specific skills needed. Funded by CSQ, these courses are chosen through industry demand, consultation, and regional workforce requirements. The subsidy helps cover training and assessment costs for eligible participants, creating flexible and accessible upskilling opportunities.
This online course is fully subsidised for eligible applicants, with MPAQ charging only a $50.00 administration fee per course.
Additional Fees
Additional fees may apply for the process of issuing your licence. These fees and charges will be incurred from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) and any issues with these fees should be raised directly with them.
